Short description:

Territory: SW Oltenia region - counties: Dolj, Olt, Valcea, Gorj and Mehedinti;

History
The pole was established on 30.08.2012 consisting of 66 members.

Main objective:

  • Increasing the competitiveness of the tourism sector in the South West Oltenia region, by building a unified regional brand and by innovating the tourism product so that by 2020 Oltenia improves its position as a Romanian tourist destination nationally and internationally and the annual tourist flow grows by 15 % (about 50,000 tourists a year).
  • Overall objectives:
  • Development, modernization and maintenance of relevant infrastructure to facilitate, develop and promote tourism and the companies involved;
  • Defining the identity and the regional tourism brand and promoting the pole;
  • Development of innovative marketing tools and creation of tourism products;
  • Utilization of natural resources and sustainable tourism development;
  • Development of training and qualification on topics relevant to the tourism sector, in terms of stabilizing and expanding the labor market in the tourism sector;
  • Improvement of the organizational capacity and of the capacity to access funds and implement projects by pole members.

Reasons for establishing the cluster:

  • Consolidating and promoting regional identity and defining a regional tourism brand, by highlighting the local particularities;
  • Improving the capacity to promote and inform on the offer of tourism products and services, including by developing new tourism marketing tools to attract more customers and to expand the market share of the operators in the region;
  • Improving the business environment through infrastructure development and conservation of the built environment, including:
    • infrastructure for business support and management consulting services, such as: exhibition spaces; production facilities and equipment - especially for small local craft producers and other light industries related to the tourism sector; meeting rooms and for organizing other events;
    • Access infrastructure to tourism destinations;
    • Museum structures, buildings and historical monuments;
    • Traditional rural architecture.
  • Innovation of products and tourism services:
    • Development of integrated tourism packages;
    • Dissemination of ICT in tourism;
    • Upgrade of production processes in the traditional crafts sector;
  • Improving and preserving the environment:
    • Combating the degradation of environmental factors;
    • Rehabilitation of industrial sites;
    • Preservation and utilization of natural resources for tourism purposes.
  • Development, improvement and (re)training of staff skills and increasing employment opportunities in the tourism sector;
  • Improving the operating capacity and the capacity to access public funds for implementing specific development, modernization and innovation projects by the organizations and structures.
