Synergies for Greener European Horizons

As part of the European Green Deal with the overarching goal of making the EU climate-neutral by 2050, a set of measures are being implemented such as “Fit for 55” legislation, the new Social Climate Fund, the new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, new CO2 standards for transport, the Green Deal Industrial Plan, REPowerEU, the revision of the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, the EU’s Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 etc. Both Norway, Iceland and Romania are committed to the implementation of EU Green Deal objectives at national level.

The current project builds on the long-lasting cooperation between the Romanian Cluster Association (RO) and Innovation Performance AS (NO) as well on the until now yet unachieved cooperation potential between Romania and Iceland and means to address following challenges:

Challenge 1: Low participation of Romanian organizations and of RO-NO and RO-IS cooperation in Research and Innovation Projects related to green transition;

Challenge 2: Relative low integration of Norwegian and Icelandic clusters in the European cluster landscape;

Challenge 3: Capitalising the lessons learned and results of the previous cooperation and of still unused potential.

Considering the above, the project’s main goal can be summarised as enhancing cluster-based Romanian–Norwegian-Icelandic cooperation in the field of green transition by making use of all available bilateral and European support mechanisms. The project will be carried on by an association between CLUSTERO (RO, lead partner), Innovation Performance AS (NO) and The Icelandic Centre for Research (RANNIS, IS). The project is financed within the Call for Bilateral Cooperation in the Green Transition Romania and Norway, Iceland, or Lichtenstein, Fund for Bilateral Relations – SMEs Growth Romania.
